ShopItUp Canada — Prohibited and Restricted Items Policy

Version 2026-09-16 · Effective date: 2026-09-16

This Policy applies to every item listed through the ShopItUp platform at shopitup.ca. That includes items on your own Store and items you publish to any sales channel you connect through us (a "Channel").

The platform is operated by 2837675 Alberta Inc., carrying on business as ShopItUp ("ShopItUp," "we," "us"). This Policy forms part of the ShopItUp Canada Seller Agreement and the Terms of Service, and applies to buyers through the Terms of Sale. Listing a prohibited item, or listing a restricted item without meeting its conditions, is a breach of Section 13 of the Seller Agreement.

How this Policy works

There are two layers of rules, and they are not the same:

  • This Policy is ours. It applies to everything listed through ShopItUp.
  • Each Channel has its own rules. Channels such as Poshmark, Depop, eBay, Shopify, and Google set their own prohibited-items policies. Those policies are often stricter than ours, and each Channel can change them at any time. Under Section 11 of the Seller Agreement, knowing and following them is your responsibility. Links to each Channel's policy are on that Channel's page under Integrations.

We do not pre-screen listings, and we cannot catch everything. Where we can recognize an item that breaks this Policy or a Channel's rules, we may hold it back and tell you why. Our checks are not exhaustive, and a Channel may remove an item we allowed through.

You are responsible for making sure every item you list is legal to sell in Canada and meets this Policy.

2. Restricted — allowed only if the conditions are met

2.1 Used cosmetics and opened personal care products

Allowed if all of the following are met:

  • the product is not expired, contaminated, or visibly degraded;
  • the listing accurately describes its condition, including roughly how much product remains; and
  • the product is not listed in Section 1.3. This means fragrance, nail polish, hairspray, and aerosols are not allowed.

Not allowed under this section: products regulated as drugs or natural health products, such as sunscreen, acne treatments, antiperspirants, and medicated shampoos. These fall under Section 1.1.

Required disclosure. We add the following disclosure to each listing, and it is shown to buyers before checkout:

Pre-owned personal care item. Please see the photographs and description for condition; not sold as new or unused.

The disclosure applies to cosmetics, skincare, and hair care products that contact the skin and have a shelf life. It does not apply to:

  • brushes, cases, tools, or appliances; or
  • products that are still sealed and unopened.

2.2 Children's products

Allowed only if the product:

  • meets current Canadian safety requirements;
  • is not recalled or banned (see Section 1.2); and
  • is complete, with no missing parts, and includes assembly instructions where applicable.

This applies especially to strollers, high chairs, playpens, toys, and children's sleepwear.

2.3 Protective sports equipment

Hockey helmets and hockey face protectors must carry the certification marks required by Canadian law. Listings must not claim that any protective equipment meets a safety standard unless it does.

2.4 Knives and bladed tools

Knives and bladed tools that are legal to sell in Canada, such as kitchen knives, pocket knives, and tools, are allowed. They must not be advertised as weapons.

3. Allowed

Secondhand clothing, including swimwear, sleepwear, bras, camisoles, slips, and bodysuits. This is what ShopItUp is for.

All clothing must be:

  • clean; and
  • accurately described.

Listings for intimate apparel and swimwear must not include sexualized photos or descriptions, and must not offer or refer to worn or unwashed items.

Some Channels have their own rules about used undergarments and swimwear. Those rules are the Channel's, and Section 11 of the Seller Agreement makes them your responsibility.

4. Enforcement

If you list an item that breaks this Policy, or if we believe you have, we may:

  • remove or hold back the listing, on your Store or any Channel;
  • cancel affected orders and refund buyers from your funds, as described in the Seller Agreement;
  • hold payouts;
  • suspend or close your account, including for repeated violations; and
  • report the matter to law enforcement or other authorities, and cooperate with their requests, where we believe an item may be stolen, illegal, or dangerous.

We may act without advance notice where required by law or where we believe there is a risk to buyers or others.

5. Reporting a listing

Anyone can report a listing they believe breaks this Policy using the process in our Listing Reporting and Copyright Notice Policy.

6. Asking for a review

If one of your items was held back or removed and you believe that was a mistake, contact us. If you are signed in, you can also use Feedback & support in the menu under your profile.

7. Changes to this Policy

We review this Policy regularly, especially Section 1.3. We may update it at any time. Updates apply to new and existing listings from their effective date, and we will tell you if a change affects your active listings.
